How is the advertising world dominated by images of pop culture?

First and foremost, the meaning behind the phrase popular culture is when there is a new sense of simultaneous growth of popular culture, for example new popular celebrities, new trend and etc. The advertising world is dominated by images that have a retro-like design, bright and high saturated colors and are also the ‘picture perfect’ models. Most of the posters we have seen along Orchard road and Bugis have a certain retro-like design.
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://bp1.blogger.com/_-s0B5kbAFcE/SCmGL303_II/AAAAAAAAAJ0/1EIbfibvwzo/s200/design1.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5199834783298354306" />
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://bp1.blogger.com/_-s0B5kbAFcE/SCmGX303_JI/AAAAAAAAAJ8/E3HNQsf6R2I/s200/design2.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5199834989456784530" />
These two pictures are examples of what we meant retro-like design. What makes it a retro-like design is the circles. And we have seen a lot of these circles design on most of the posters along Orchard road and Bugis. They are usually very bright, vibrant and high in saturation. Thus It brings out the trend of colors used in posters and advertisement nowadays.
These designs and colors that are retro inspired can also be seen in the fashion and the trends of what the present people are wearing. A fashion show is also a way of advertising the product which are usually clothes. And current fashion shows are dominated by beautiful faces and very slim models which they name as size two.
And the advertising world for a fashion brand like Prada, Gucci, Victoria’s Secret and etc, are dominated by images of skiing and beautiful models and mostly popular and all these affects the trend of clothes people wear and also the desires that they like being as slim as the models, perfect hairs, perfect body and etc.

For example,
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://bp2.blogger.com/_-s0B5kbAFcE/SCmG7H03_KI/AAAAAAAAAKE/z-E2y6CAocw/s200/design3.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5199835595047173282" />
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://bp3.blogger.com/_-s0B5kbAFcE/SCmHFX03_LI/AAAAAAAAAKM/YIdlXK51G3E/s200/design4.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5199835771140832434" />
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://bp0.blogger.com/_-s0B5kbAFcE/SCmHNn03_MI/AAAAAAAAAKU/Wt85OYg6V0k/s200/design5.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5199835912874753218" />

2. How does the images that you’ve seen(in the exhibition) apply in contemporary advertising?

The images that we have seen at the exhibition, uses primary colors, slim models and also beautiful faces, which also apply to the contemporary culture now. The colors used are very bright and saturated, like what some of the advertisement look like. The only distortion done to the portraits were the eyes but the rest were picture perfect. Maybe the portraits imply indirectly to the models. All models are pretty. They have perfect nose, perfect lips, perfect hair and beautiful eyes. However, the portraits’ distorted eyes may resemble the ugly side of the models which are not seen by the world. Thus, the images we have seen applies directly, through the color and the beautiful faces, and indirectly, through the message that it was trying to get at, in contemporary advertising.

3. How do you fit in the contemporary culture?

Contemporary culture refers to the culture we currently live in, example, the social, political, and economical climate, plus what we engage in today like the values. Thus, what we do today are what contemporary culture is all about. We are trend followers. As young adults, we are easily influenced by the current and upcoming trends in store for us. And this can be in a form of fashion, songs and music, design and colors. Thus, we buy clothes that are on trend right now such as the pop design and retro design t-shirt. Apart from buying, the use of language are also part of the contemporary culture. Some words are cool to use and examples can be vulgarities that are very common nowadays, the use of dude and yo and many more.

Pop songs are too old-fashioned and the new hip-hop beats are the trend nowadays. Thus, as trend followers, we get influence by the selection of songs and get easily addicted to this type of music that’s going around everywhere.

Modern & Pop Culture

Why do images, pictures, art have a powerful impact on us?
- It's because images dominated our lives. Thay define us and also mould us. When we look at a certain peice of art, it may
change how we behave, feel and think.
- And also because some are beautifully and perfectly maed that it inspires us and changes the person we were.

Why is the modern world dominated by unrealistic images of the body?
- It started from the olden days of how different cultres made the images.
- The hunters lived in a harsh state where the women were fat, theu they bring out grotesque scultures.
- Eygtians create their images with a grid which brings out a little more realistic bpdy figure.
- Lastly, the Greeks were very full of themselves nd believe that the beautiful body is like a God's body.
- And the Eygptians and the Greeks combines to create a statue of a boy, which perfectly match a human body.
- But, the instinct that is hard wire into the brain of human can be overridden by culture.
- The statue of the boy was too realistic and boring.
- Therefore, the exaggerated parts of the body, like the muscles, bones and the way they stand to make it more appealing.

In conclusion, humans follow their culture than reality. And now as the modern would become more culturally diverse, the images will have a further changes.

<link rel='alternate' type='text/html' href='http://nasha-nasha.blogspot.com/2008/05/modern-pop-culture.html' title='Modern & And the message is that the camera is water proof and can give a good and clear print quality. The part when the sound of the clicking camera and the part when the guy show the camera portray clearly that the camera water proof. And the last part when the guy is looking at the pictures tell me in some way that the pictures are clear.

Fromt the material reading that i have, this commercial has the strategy of Unique Selling Propotions. It's because The camera itself has a unique quality that it is underwater. And this type of camera are rare. And the general tactic that the use is humor. They use humor to attract attention. Agfa is not a well-known product, thus they can only use the tactic of attention rather than message,acceptance and resistance. Because attention is the only way to make the product well-known.

The information that they provide only feature the water proof quality and they do ot provide information like price,where, when and how to buy the product. Ant this commercial doesnt have any influence and emotions except humor.
Therefore in conclusion, i think that the commercial is effective because it's funny. And that's the main reason.

I think that this commercial is effective yet funny. The target audience for the first commercial is targeted to all the citizens of the United State and the target audience for the second commercial is to all the people who want to buy a car.

For the first commercial, the spin was treated in a direct manner. Mrs. Clinton was openly persuading the citizens that she will make the home a better place. It is effective because what she has said and what she want to do for the citizen was an emotional thing to the people, especially those have financial difficulties. They will be convinced and we believe that thy will lead a secured when become the one.

For the second commercial, the spin was treated in an indirect manner. The commercial is trying to convinced the consumers that the car is very tough that it won't break in a crash and that it is very compact. Consumers will be attracted because of their quality of being compact. At the beginning of his employment there, he had marked a star above his own house on a picture postcard of Cologne and Deutz, and had written to his wife that this star would one day shine over his own factory to symbolize prosperity.he three points of the star were supposed to represent Daimler's ambition of universal motorization: "on land, on water and in the air".
Over the years the logo evolved, to include the 'Benz' laurel wreath, and then, in 1923, the three-pointed star enclosed in a circle was registered as a trademark.

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://bp3.blogger.com/_-s0B5kbAFcE/RyWcfvNedJI/AAAAAAAAADQ/0N8JfvNcyM4/s200/peugeot.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5126675819894043794" />

The company filed three designs to distinguish between the different qualities in which its tools were available:
- A lion, with or without an arrow, for top of the range products
- A crescent moon for second category products
- A hand for third quality.

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://bp1.blogger.com/_-s0B5kbAFcE/RyWf3PNedKI/AAAAAAAAADY/EyxXSCnnPJM/s200/subaru.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5126679522155852962" />

Subaru was the first Japanese car company to use a name derived from its own language. It refers to a group of six stars - also known by its original Japanese name of mutsuraboshi - in the constellation of Taurus. We'd know them as Pleiades. Subaru is also Japanese for "unite".

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://bp0.blogger.com/_-s0B5kbAFcE/RyWhC_NedLI/AAAAAAAAADg/10hHDs04B5M/s200/images.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5126680823530943666" />

The Japanese have a bit of a weakness for mad badges. A funny commercial. It users a woman who is blond and the common stereotyped term " dumb blond" or "bimbo". The tag line shows that the Mercedes is opposite of the woman, giving the impression that the car is more high-class and more sophisticated to drive around.

-Volkswagen,VW-
This commercial shows the importance of the car towards the guy. Besides that, it is also strong as it does not crush easily. I personally like this commercial as it is very unique and different fro other commercials.

.What do you think of consumerism towards the automobile is like in Singapore?
- I think that Singapore is having too many automobile on the road and i strongly believe that having too many automobile is the root of the problem of global warming and the rising temperature in Singapore. And this is the cause of the gases coming out fro the automobile.
Singapore has a very complex network of infrastructure and Singapore is not a big country that it will take hours and hours to travel from one place to the other. Having a car to travel around will make life convenient but will also endanger lives in future. Therefore, i think that the consumerism of the automobile in Singapore is too high and that it should be reduce to improve our environment for our surroundings and own health.

Juxtaposition

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://bp0.blogger.com/_-s0B5kbAFcE/RsgqOHK2wUI/AAAAAAAAABo/ThoKO5uePQ0/s200/juxtaposition.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5100372999928201538" />

This is my first work which is call juxtaposition.
